President’s Message

Dear University of Tennessee alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends,

Thank you for your interest in advocating for the University of Tennessee.

UT President Joe DiPietroOur University has a unique mission among public higher education in Tennessee. As our state’s land-grant institution and most comprehensive research university, UT fulfills its mission of education, research and outreach – statewide. The University has a presence in all 95 counties, where our faculty and staff variously teach students, deliver healthcare, provide training and consulting to government and industry and discover new technology or improve on existing methods or products.

With more than 325,000 alumni, nearly 50,000 students and 14,000 employees, the University is a large constituency. All of our supporters working together toward common goals give us a stronger voice and presence in our state.

I’m proud the University is increasing the profile of our state by producing more graduates and a more highly-qualified workforce, discovering innovations that help our citizens and supporting economic development through technology transfer.

The expectations for the University of Tennessee and higher education have been raised. The need for a college degree will only become more critical in the workplace. We have much to accomplish as the economy continues to rebound, and we will have to compete for funding as we find more ways to increase efficiency and productivity.

Please use this website as a starting point to learn how you can advocate for UT. Thank you for joining with us in support of your University.

All the Best,

UT President Joe's Signature
